JC Legal Complaints Policy

JC Legal are committed to providing exceptional legal services and ensuring the highest standards of client care. Should any aspect of our service fail to meet your expectations, we encourage you to inform us promptly so that we may address, resolve and improve upon the issue.

Complaints Handling Procedure

Submitting a Complaint

If you have acomplaint regarding the handling of your matter or the conduct of any employee at JC Legal, we request that you submit your complaint in writing, addressed to Jo Creedon.

What to Expect After Submitting a Complaint

Acknowledgment of Complaint:

  1. Upon receipt of your complaint, we will acknowledge its receipt within 5 working days. Along with the acknowledgment, we will provide you with a copy of our Complaints Policy, which includes details regarding the Isle of Man Law Society Complaints Procedure and the Isle of Man Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal.
  2. Investigation:
    Your complaint will be thoroughly investigated with consideration of the details of your complaint along with any supporting documentation provided.
  3. Initial Response:
    We will provide an initial response to your complaint within 10 working days, setting out our findings and any proposals to resolve the matter. If you find our response satisfactory, the matter will be considered closed.
  4. Request for Meeting
    If you are not satisfied with our initial response, you may request a meeting with us within 10 working days of receiving our response.
  5. Arranging a Meeting:
    Should you request a meeting; we will issue an invitation within 5 working days. The meeting will take place within 10 working days from the date of the invitation.
  6. Post-Meeting Confirmation:
    Following the meeting, we will send you a written confirmation within 5 working days, outlining the discussions that took place and any resolutions or actions agreed upon.
  7. Further Review:
    At this stage, if you are still not satisfied, you should contact us again and we will arrange for another firm of Advocates to review your complaint. 
  8. Final Step:
    If, after the review, you remain dissatisfied with the resolution, you are entitled to contact the Isle of Man Law Society directly.

Should any of the timescales outlined above need to be amended, we will notify you promptly and provide an explanation. If you require additional time to meet any deadlines, please inform us, and we will accommodate your request where possible.

Complaints Concerning Our Fees

In the event of a dispute regarding our fees, and if we are unable to reach an agreement, you may request an assessment of our fees by the Isle of Man Law Society, or, in the case of litigation matters, you may request the Chief Registrar to assess our fees. Please be aware that strict time limits apply to these procedures.

In cases involving allegations of negligence, the procedures outlined above may not be appropriate. In such instances, we will refer the matter to our insurers for further consideration.
